My heart longs for you
I can’t get my mind off you
I have never missed you like this before…
I can’t wait to see you;
to taste your sweetness
to feel your tranquility
as it permeates my body and soul

It’s been eleven months…
I was at the balcony
arranging dates and yogurts
on red Turkish carpets
watching the twilight
as it vanished into the horizon;
heralding the tenth lunar month
I heard the children singing:

“Ma’a salaamah yaa Ramadan”

Dear Ramadan,
it wasn’t easy to see you go
As I count down to our next meeting,
I pray:
Oh! Allaah, make us witness this and more
Make us earn Your Mercy and Pleasure.
