The moon is buried
behind dark clouds.
It’s a silent night.
The sort of silence
that amplifies the footsteps
of a creeping ant.
The sort of silence
that makes me hear
my own heartbeat
and the rumbling in my gut.
I feel terrified.
As if there is impending danger
behind this quiescence.
Let no wind shake the door.
Let no dog bark or howl.
Let me hide under my blanket
and plug my ears till I fall asleep.
Bismika Allaahumma
amuutu wa ahyaa…
