This is dedicated to all my girlfriends whose husbands are living/studying/working abroad. Trust me, I know exactly how it feels to be lonely…

No matter how independent you think you are, you are going to reach your elastic limit at a point, and you’ll conclude that there’s no such thing as a superwoman. Things don’t always work out the way we’ve planned. We may have started our love story as one inseparable entity, moving together like a snail and its shell. But situations may warrant a transient separation to seek greener pasture or for other purposes.
Dear abroad husband, we know you’re sending in a huge amount of dollars every month. Don’t forget that there are some things that money cannot buy. We know you always text, call and video-chat, but these can never replace cuddles and kisses. The children need your fatherly presence as much as your wife needs TLC. Come home to them as frequently as possible.
“Travelling is a form of punishment or difficulty. It deprives a person of his food, drink and sleep. When he finishes his tasks or needs, he should hurry back to his family”. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1804 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1927)
To the single young women: before you jump at that “abroad” guy, be sure that he’s not just hooking you down because his parents are disturbing him to come home and marry. If you want to marry a globetrotter, you need to look beyond the material benefits and make concrete plans on how to make your union work. With time, you’ll realize that you need the companionship as well as the dollars!
