EXPLORATORY HOMEOTOMY: A type of cosmetic surgery performed by toddlers, which involves painstaking rearrangement of gadgets, utensils and furniture, looking for things that are not lost and scattering of toys all over the floor. It is usually done without anaesthesia, so the affected patient (mum/dad) screams throughout the procedure. Failure to allow the surgeon do his job might result in serious tantrums. Complications could range from mild to life-threatening but these are rare with cooperative patients. Recovery is usually dramatic. In fact, the patient often cleans up the theatre at the end of each operation!
